01 August 2011
Found the Weather Station with the message 'Battery Low
On Station' which not bad since it was replaced back in
September 2009.
The CR123A battery has approximately 2 year life in the
ISS unit.
04 June 2011
Finally got the Temperature
/ Humidity Sensor in and it is working well. I have
read that the new sensors which are digital will not work
with VP2 made before January 2006. My unit was made in 2005.
It was part number 07345.166 written on the back. I have
upgrade the firmware in the Console unit and this may be
why the new digital sensor is working.
01 April 2011
We just gave the weather station a bit of a clean up
due to all the Liquefaction Dust that was caused by the
earthquakes.
I also found the temperature / humidity sensor has died.
A new sensor has the been order and should arrive in the
next few days.
22 February 2011
We had another earthquake 6.3, 5km deep and 10km from the
city at 1251hrs. This caused the weather station to be taken
off-line for a few hours.
04 September 2010
This weather station was taken off-line at 0425hrs due
to a 7.1, 11km deep and 37km from the city earthquake. We
have got it back online for now. There are after stocks
occurring.
23 February 2010
Took the station down today for general maintenance
(Spider web cleaning) and to replace the fan unit (7758)
for the temp & humidity.
This will hopefully give better readings as the old fan
has been it there since I brought the unit and was worn
out. I also got the wind sensors higher as well.
22 October 2009
The Davis 6311VP2 Updater for Vantage Pro2 has arrived
with v1.80 (14 July 2008) on board.
I have updated the firmware in the console unit from May
27 2005 to v1.80 (14 July 2008).
With v1.80 it has fixed allot of issues I was having and
made the weather station better.
Anything after 28 November 2005 version can be upgraded
via the data logger and there is no need for the 6311VP2
Updater.
I will continue to upgrade it to the latest v1.82 (30 December
2008).
If you want your console updated, just drop me an e-mail
and I can update it for you.
24 September 2009
I have once again found the Weather Station Not Responding
with 'Battery Low On Station'.
When I changed the battery (CR123A) a few months ago on
the ISS station. (Should have lasted for 2 years approximately)
The battery is used as a backup if the SuperCap
(10 Farad, 2.7v) Fails and is this case that is what
has happened (a common problem)
The SuperCap is recharged by the Solar Panel, so when it
goes dark the SuperCap takes over and when the SuperCap
goes flat the CR123A Battery takes over.
I have replaced it with a 10000uf (10 Farad) 25V Electrolytic
Capacitors. (ISS
unit can support 2 and is only shipped with 1)

.04 April 2009
Managed to find a better deal for web hosting and have
moved the weather site.
30 March 2009
Woke up this morning and found the Weather Station Not Responding
with 'Battery Low On Station'.
Have changed the battery (CR123A) in the main ISS station
and the batteries (150mAh Nickel Metal Hydride) in the 24-hour
fan-aspirated radiation shield. Everything should now be
working fine now.
15 May 2008
Have Finally Got the Weather Station mounted at the new
place, although it is not in an ideal position it still
gives reasonable readings.
I will have to move it to a better (Higher) location later
once I get anything organized.
04 May 2008
Took the Weather Station Down today as I will be moving
to a new place.
08 April 2008
Finally got the Lightening Detection hardware by Boltek
StormTracker software by Astrogenic
NexStorm the Boltek.
Still testing it and had some issues running under Window
2000. It appears to be working fine and I have to build
a PVC house to store the aerial in and find a place to mount
it that would not pickup things being switched on. ie. Lights,
washing machines etc.
20 February 2008
Davis
6163 Wireless Vantage Pro2+ w/Fan Aspirated Radiation Shield
(FARS) has arrived and now to get it working and up
on the house.
Being wireless is all good now, I am not limited to where
I can mount the Station as long as it is range with the
receiver.
02 August 2007
I have order from HobbyBoards.com
some more sensors for the 1-Wire system.
Hopefully if anything goes right I will be able to monitor
Solar, Humidity, Lightning, Leaf Wetness.
I also got Tim Bitson book Weather Toys, so I can learn
a bit more about using the weather station and where to
put the sensors for a better readings.
05 July 2006
I got a 1-Wire weather station today and looking forward
to monitoring what the weather is doing.
I am looking at upgrading it as it monitors Wind & Direction,
Pressure (Barometer), Temperature and rain.
